CDC • HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome).
With growing attention to epidemic control, but also concerns about the challenges of ending AIDS as a public health threat, this press conference will highlight a new, comparative analysis that looks across six locations that each have successfully driven down new HIV infections and HIV mortality: London, Malawi, Rakai, San Francisco, Sydney, and Thailand. The analysis identifies the elements that contributed to success and provides a roadmap for accelerated progress for the future, combining priorities for programme, policy, and rapid scaling of new interventions.
CHAIR:

Anthony Fauci, National Institute of Health (NIH), United States
Greg Millett, amfAR, United States
